Amazing!

Really there is no other word to describe my daughter than just that, amazing. I know most adults would have collapsed and completely broken down after enduring only half of what she has been through, and she is only two years old…

Valerie was only a few months old in the picture above and had already gone through one major open heart surgery when she was only one month of age. It’s hard to believe how fast she bounced back, but just when her scar on her chest began to fade, she had to go in for her second open heart surgery.

I should really give a disclaimer on the image below, it’s as heartbreaking as it is precious, and it is precious only because of the resilience God gave her…

Since then she has gone through several cardio cath surgeries, getting a G.I. tube (feeding tube) surgically placed into her stomach, and on top of all of that, she has also survived a third major open heart surgery…

My Valerie has endured nine surgeries and she is only two years old.

As her mother and an Indi Author, how could I not write her story down in hopes to share it with the world? In fact, my needs are much greater than that because as it stands right now, Valerie can expect (with multiple open heart surgeries and even more cath lab surgeries, which all surgeries carry a risk, no matter how minor they are) to only live to her forties, maybe to her fifties… That is not long enough for me, Valerie needs a cure! Every child born with a CHD (Congenital Heart Defect) needs a cure. Let us start by raising awareness and that is why I have written Valerie’s story down. You see, I want her to outlive me if I were to live to be a hundred.  My daughter should outlive me!

She’s worth it, every child is, and I believe with everything I am that with God’s help, a cure is possible.

Join me on my endeavor to introduce Valerie’s story to the world and to shed light on one of the most common birth defects there is, in hopes to one day find that cure for this awful disease.

Although I do not mind Indi-publishing this story if I have to, I do believe my daughter’s story deserves to picked up by a traditional publishing house, but in order to do that, the first step is to get a literary agent…

Please pray for me as I begin this journey of querying literary agents, in hopes to find the right one to represent the most important story I have ever written; the true story of my little daughter’s powerful and God given strength. It really is no wonder that God put it on my heart to name her Valerie, since the meaning of her name is strength.

Now to get her story out there and begin the first step in defeating this wretched disease otherwise known as Congenital Heart Defects!
